First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to GitLab for sponsoring this internship and offering me an invaluable opportunity to delve into the realms of open-source contributions. This week is all about preparing and setting the stage for the incredible learning and collaboration that lies ahead.

What to Expect

Getting Acquainted

The initial phase is all about acclimatizing myself to the tools, processes, and the vibrant GitLab community. I expect a warm welcome from mentors, fellow interns, and the broader open-source community.

Onboarding Essentials

• Git Setup: I’ll familiarize myself with Git, explore the base repository, and get comfortable with the workflow.
• Communication Channels: Joining relevant communication channels, including the mailing list, #git and #git-devel channels on the Libera Chat IRC server and the Git Community Discord Server
• Understanding the Project: I’ll dive into the specifics of the project I’ll be working on, understanding its objectives, existing codebase, and expected outcomes.

Establishing a Routine

While this week is an introduction, establishing a routine can set the pace for the coming weeks. I’ll allocate time for learning, exploring documentation, and engaging with mentors and the community.

Goal Setting

I’ll set clear objectives for what I aim to achieve during the internship. Whether it’s mastering a new programming language, contributing to specific features, or gaining deeper insights into software development, having defined goals will guide my journey.
